Cocoa beans are sensitive to oxygen, moisture fluctuations and insects during storage and transport. These factors can gradually affect flavour, aroma, colour and overall commercial quality.
vQm Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) helps protect semi-bulk cocoa by reducing oxygen exposure and limiting external moisture ingress. The integrated vQm Two-Way Valve allows the packaging to be vacuumed and flushed with N₂ and/or CO₂, creating controlled conditions inside the high-barrier packaging.
Correct drying, product moisture content, hygienic handling and inspection remain essential, as MAP cannot correct cocoa that is already too moist, mould-damaged or contaminated.
Reduced oxygen exposure helps slow oxidative deterioration and supports preservation of cocoa flavour, aroma and colour.
High-barrier packaging strongly limits moisture exchange, helping cocoa maintain its required moisture level and reducing the risk of rehydration, condensation-related damage and mould growth.
Low-oxygen or CO₂-rich atmospheres can be used to control stored-product insects when the required gas concentration, product temperature and exposure time are maintained.
By helping protect cocoa during prolonged storage and transport, MAP supports consistent quality from origin to processor.
Longer quality retention can provide more flexibility in shipping, inventory management and timing of processing or sale.
Designed for demanding semi-bulk applications such as fine powders. The higher vacuum capacity helps achieve the required MAP conditions even when milk powder compacts under vacuum and restricts free airflow.
A reliable seal is essential for maintaining the modified atmosphere inside the packaging. The recommended sealer depends on the selected packaging option.
Designed to measure and verify MAP conditions. Measuring the and CO₂ concentrations supports quality assurance and confirms that the required MAP conditions have been achieved.
To transport semi-bulk cacoa we recommend the following packaging:
All packaging is designed with the vQm valve sealed inside (that enables efficient gas flushing through one secure connection point at amazing speed) Explore the vQm Two-Way Valve →
Its form-stable square design reduces bulging and helps maximise the use of available storage and container space.
If you prefer using palletised sacks, boxes or other existing cacao packaging, you can stack them on pallets and enclose the entire unit in a vQm Wrapping Liner or a Hood liner in case an automated palletizer is used. This protects whole shipments at once without altering your existing bagging process.
Protect cacoa against oxidation, moisture fluctuations and insects while preserving their flavour, aroma and commercial value from origin to destination.
